Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it.
But Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did.
Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

  1. There is a related quip: In the days past, there was once a Kingdom where everyone was lazy and lacked responsibility. The King and the Prime Minister (advisor to the King) were very troubled by this. One day, the Prime Minister made an announcement that the Kingdom was facing a severe shortage of Milk and that, at sundown, the head of every household was to pour a glass of Milk into huge cauldrons that would be set up in every locality. The next morning, the Prime Minister and the King surveyed all the cauldrons in the presence of their subjects - every cauldron was filled with water - most had poured water into the cauldrons thinking "everybody else will pour Milk and nobody would know that there is a glass of water in the cauldron full of water" - this brought to nought, the Milk into the Cauldron by the few honest ones.

Hearing the chiding words of their beloved King, the people of the kingdom felt ashamed and from that day onwards, every able bodied man and woman worked hard, and the kingdom prospered.
